Admiral Yi Sun Shin was born on the 28th, April in 1545 at Geoncheondong, Seoul.
   After his father's quitting from government officials, the family moved to Asan county, Chungcheongdo province.
   At first, he chose liberal arts. But he had to choose the military course, because of the systems of social class.
   He passed the entrance examination of the military course at the age of 32 and was appointed as a lower officer of Hamgyeong-do province to begin his military service.


   
He was appointed as the naval commander of the left part of Cheollado in 1591 when he was 47 years old. He prepared to build the turtle ship and trained soldiers.
   As soon as Imjinwaeran broke out in 1592, he participated in many battles and gained sucessive victories.
   As a result, he was appointed as the chief commander of three southern provinces(Chungcheong, Kyeongsang and Cheolla) and the government also charged him with the position of the Cheolla left naval base commander at the same time.
   Admiral Yi carried out many battles: for example, the battle of Okpo, Happo, Jeockjinpo, Sacheon, Dangpo, Youlpo, Hansando, Angolpo, Dadaepo, Pusanpo, Myeongryang and Noryang etc.
   He died regrettably by the bullet of Japanese soldiers at the battle of Noryang, on November 19, 1598.
   After his death, government bestowed him with the posthumous title of the Prime Minister.

   Distinguished achievements of Admiral Yi Sun Shin

1. Built the turtle ships in the 16th century and defeated the huge fleet of Japan.
2. Wrote the diary in camp for 6 years and 9 months.
3. Practiced filial duty to his mother even during the war.
4. Wrote many brilliant works of poetry in chiness-letters.
